I'm a network engineer in the Great Northwest and I co-host a podcast at geekfit.com with Jason Tucker (abstrakone).
When I started this journey in March 2005 I weighed around 400 lbs.
The thing that jarred me into motion was a picture my wife had taken on Christmas morning 2004. I was sitting in a low armchair wearing my usual outfit: sweats and a t-shirt. It went from belly to legs to feet -- no knees!! I said, "oh hell no."
I got myself a gym membership and started out swimming every morning. That progressed to the treadmill and finally to where I am today which is riding a bike 7-10 miles at a clip and playing DDR at the local bowling alley a few days a week.
It feels so good I think I'm going to keep going. ;)

I hit the gym this morning for a half hour and I can feel it. I haven't quite started at square one, but I'm darn close. Staying on the treadmill at a decent speed is difficult and my muscles have mostly atrophied from the stud-muffin size they were when I was going 5-days a week.
The new job entails 50% travel, so eating well and not overeating is a constant challenge. It's one I'm excited to take on! Who's with me?!

Sounds like you've probably put on muscle mass, and loss fat! I always find that when I start working out again my weight tends to go up, and fast.

WOOT!
In my defense, I would have gone longer but I'd also done about 45 minutes of DDR this afternoon as well.
That's right boys and girls, no exercise for me yesterday. Life happened and I had to resign myself to not getting any in. Today I'm going to either hit up the DDR or do a little wet biking. It just started raining her so I've got to decide how I'm going to change up my workouts.
Running is tempting.
Keep up the great work!
Good to hear there's more WoWer's out there. :D
And I'm reading the other comments on here and it looks like you're doing great - I love DDR, too, but I have a bad knee so can't do much with it for very long. :)
One kid who was playing there in between my turns on it tapped me on the arm as I was leaving and told me I did really good. I think my head inflated instantly.
I know the under 300 challenge. Chin up - keep riding and you'll surprise yourself and be under!

The ride home from work is hard.
That's the same conversation I had with myself before attacking my goal with... well, not wreckless abandon, maybe well thought-out abandon? :)
Sub-300! DO IT!
Make this a life-long pursuit and don't mind the bumps in the road on the way to becoming healthy.
Would you let me know when you post your entry about recording the stream? I'd like to learn how to do that.
Thanks so much for the good words you've left me. I will definitely check out Geekfit as well. I'm loving this community so far, although I know its still growing everyone seems so positive and interested in sharing their experiences with what has worked for them personally (and what hasn't). Keep it up, I see you've already lost 2lbs. the first week!
Cheers,
Suzanne
I be happy to help motivate you...but it says you have no space for a motivator. Maybe the space is already filled? Anyway....if you like more info on TOPS let me know. There may be a chapter in your area you can attend.
Have a successful day!
